Children who learn critical thinking and problem solving skills are more likely to succeed in life, and STEAM education is an excellent method for teaching such skills. This weekend, check out downtown Greenville’s Imagine Upstate festival as they showcase interactive exhibits related to the fields of Science, Technology, Arts, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEAM). Its purpose is to stir up interest in STEAM and answer any questions that students in PreK-12 may have. Saturday’s free festival will be occurring from 11-5pm on Main Street. Come see why learning doesn’t have to be boring or mundane. After all, according to WB Yeats, “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.”
Monster trucks are 12,000 pounds of engineered perfection, and maybe that is why it is so shocking to see them smashed to pieces in an arena. This weekend, entertain the whole family with a visit to Monster Jam at Bon Secours Arena. Before the show, visitors are welcome to witness the trucks up close and meet their favorite drivers. Children are welcome to enjoy the SandBox play area and coloring/tattoo stations. Then, be captivated by the show as the trucks compete against each other in Freestyle, Skills, Donuts, and Racing categories. Tickets start at $20, and children under 2 are free. Get ready for an unforgettable racing experience that you won’t want to miss.
Let your hair down, pull out your dancing shoes, and get ready to groove to the music: Greenville’s Fusion Fest is back! Check out the link below for scheduled lessons, such as “Intro to Slow Bal,” “Stillness in Dance,” and “WCS, Blues, and Tango Fusion.” Not interested in a lesson? Check out the dancing socials, a great way to meet new people. Food trucks and DJs will also be in attendance. Slip over to Pink’s Revenge Arcade, the Rage Room, the Blue Ox Hatchet, or 13 Stripes Brewery when you need a break. It’s going to be a rocking night!
This April, check out Greenville Theatre’s production of Driving Miss Daisy. Written by award-winning playwright Alfred Urhy, this play explores unlikely friendships that span decades. Set in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1948, racial tensions were high, but that didn't stop Daisy Werthan and Hoke Colburn from becoming friends. Adapted into the Oscar winning film, starring Morgan Freeman and Jessica Tandy, this story has touched the hearts of many audience members and continues to do to this day.
