Whether you’re visiting for the first time or have spent years in the Greenville area, The Local 5 Newsletter is your one stop destination to find out what you don’t want to miss this weekend in the Upstate.

Every Thursday, we will highlight our ‘top 5 musts’ that will include everything from restaurants, activities, parks, concerts and festivals that are all right here in beautiful Greenville, SC.

One

Greenville is hosting its largest winter festival this December 5-7 at the Greenville Convention Center. At the Holiday Fair & Kringle Village, participants can shop for unique Christmas presents from over 400 vendors, selling items like paintings, handbags, candles, snacks, and much, much more. Every day, children are invited to check out the North Pole, which houses inflatable snow slides and bouncy gingerbread houses, as well as craft stations and visits to Santa Claus. In addition to all of these activities, each day will also host quality entertainment. On Thursday, the band Randomonium will rock the house. On Friday, Elf will be screening for a Family Movie Night. Saturday will host a Little Miss Kringle Competition and an Enchanted Tea. Ticket prices vary on the day, and VIP options are available. With events like these, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Two

Greenville’s Holiday Gingerbread Exhibit makes one wish that they could live in the extravagantly built gingerbread homes. Held in the Residence Inn/Springhill Suites hotel lobbies, this is a free, community event that showcases beautiful gingerbread houses, designed by professionals and amateurs alike. If this event is anything like last year, the exhibits will be unique and detailed, featuring log cabins, bakeries, Hogwarts, and Santa’s workshops. Vote for your favorite and soak in the holiday cheer!

Three

Bask in the light this holiday season during Greenville’s Night of Lights, a street and tree lighting festival. At 6pm, Mayor White and Jane Robelot will lead the crowd in a giant countdown for the tree’s lighting. Then, explore Main Street and their Christmas vendors while listening to lively music. Santa will even be there! Kick off the season, Greenville style.

Four

If you are looking for a tree lighting service that is a bit smaller than Greenville’s, you need to check out Greer’s Christmas Tree Lighting. From 5-8pm on Friday night, participants can stop by the craft station, ice sculpture demonstration, Greer Relief Smores and Hot Chocolate, and tons of food vendors. Additionally, enjoy free train rides, musical performances, and a visit from Santa Claus! Let your heart be light this Friday night, amongst the twinkling lights.

FIve

Embark on a “Journey to the Past” during the Greenville Theatre’s production of Anastasia this December. The musical is based off of the book by Terrence McNally and the beloved film from 1997. When Anya leaves her childhood orphanage in pursuit of her future, she is confronted, instead, with the mysteries of her family’s past. Join Anastasia, Dimitri, and Vladimir as they travel from St. Petersburg to Paris, in an adventure packed with intrigue, friendship, and love. Tickets start at $50, though there is a senior and military discount. You won’t want to miss it; this show only comes around “Once Upon a December.”
