Whether you’re visiting for the first time or have spent years in the Greenville area, The Local 5 Newsletter is your one stop destination to find out what you don’t want to miss this weekend in the Upstate.

Every Thursday, we will highlight our ‘top 5 musts’ that will include everything from restaurants, activities, parks, concerts and festivals that are all right here in beautiful Greenville, SC.

One

“Let’s-a-go!” Join Mario and Luigo on a whirlwind adventure this Thursday night during Greer’s showing of The Super Mario Bros Movie. Greer’s Moonlight Movies series occurs every Thursday night during the summer and includes pre-show activities for kids of all ages. Food and beverages are available for purchase, or feel free to pack snacks. Additionally, it’s a good idea to bring a camping chair or a blanket because seating fills up quickly. You don’t need to wait until the weekend for a night out; make Thursday the new Friday with Moonlight Movies.

Two

Nothing says “southern” like a tomato and mayo sandwich. In fact, it's such a staple here in the South that Greenville is celebrating its 4th Annual Hot Tomato Summer Food Festival this week. Forty-seven local restaurants will be participating, with many offering unique combinations of the humble tomato & mayo duo. Duke’s Mayo will be selling merch, like tomato & mayo themed swim trunks, bags, and pool floats. Join the simplicity; join the fun!

Three

Nothing beats the sight of a field of wildflowers under a blue, cloudless sky. If looking to unplug for a while, check out Barfoot Acres in Fountain Inn. Visitors are invited to say “hello” to their animals, go for a hike, or shop at their market. They also host a variety of events, like Flower Friday, which is occurring this Friday. Grab a friend and join this bouquet building class from 6-8pm. American Joule will be providing live entertainment! Guests are encouraged to bring their own picnic baskets and drinks. Be dazzled by a mix of flowers: sunflowers, dahlias, zinnias, wildflowers, and more. It'll be a treasured memory that will last much longer than the flowers themselves.

Four

Jodeci, “The Bad Boys of R&B,” are performing in Greenville this Friday at the Peace Center. They’ve shaken up the genre with their unique style, selling over 20 million albums and reaching #1 on the Billboard Top R&B Album awards (x3). Their top hits include "Forever My Lady,” “Come & Talk to Me,” and “Stay.” Tickets are on sale now, starting at $75. Join K-Ci, DeVante Swing, JoJo, and Mr. Dalvin for a night of rhythm and blues that touches the soul.
