Check out The Local 5

Whether you’re visiting for the first time or have spent years in the Greenville area, The Local 5 Newsletter is your one stop destination to find out what you don’t want to miss this weekend in the Upstate.

Every Thursday, we will highlight our ‘top 5 musts’ that will include everything from restaurants, activities, parks, concerts and festivals that are all right here in beautiful Greenville, SC.

One

Shakespeare’s plays were not intended to be read via script; they were meant to be experienced live. Experience Shakespeare this summer during the Upstate Shakespeare Festival, featuring Henry lV. Because it is presented outdoors at Falls Park on the Reedy River, participants are encouraged to bring a folding chair or picnic blanket for optimal comfort. Shows are offered Thursday through Sunday July 5th-28th. This two hour show is completely free, thanks to the Metropolitan Arts Council. Just like Shakespeare, this festival will have you saying, “I like this place and could willingly waste my time in it.”

Two

It's pageant season! Join in the fun this weekend at the Miss Collegiate USA pageant, one of the top five pageants recognized nationally. Contestants will participate in interview, swim suit, and ball gown competitions before the winner is crowned on Saturday night. This Southern tradition is beloved by many, providing opportunities for friendships and scholarships. Purchase your tickets online today!

Three

Gather Greenville, the 5th Best Food Hall in America, is hosting its July 4th Weekend Celebration this Friday. In addition to all of its mouth watering eateries, like Mama Mozzarella, Saki Saki, The Lob Father, and more, GG will also provide bounce houses and face painting. Then, stick around from 6-8pm for a performance from talent show winner Naylah Campechano. Enjoy friendly conversations in a cozy & modern setting, for free!

Four

The best jokes are the spontaneous ones. That’s why stand up comedy kills! Come see the “longest running stand up comedy open mic in South Carolina” for yourself at Coffee Underground. Join Monday nights at 7pm to watch the free comedy show OR sign up at 6:30pm to perform for the crowd. Grab a coffee or hot tea from CU’s kind kitchen staff and settle in for the free show. It’s the sweetest way to turn a drab Monday night into a fab Monday night.

Trivia has the magic to bring friends together, and that’s especially true at the People’s Tap. Join every Tuesday from 7-9pm for Trivia Nights with ParmeJon. Both Papi’s Tacos and Limoncellos deliver to The People’s Tap; outside food is welcome. The People’s Tap prides itself on its quality drinks, from beers to wines and cocktails.
