Reflect on creative renderings at the Artists Guild Gallery Crawl, held every first Friday of the month. Sip on refreshments as you encounter 300+ pieces of fine art in Greenville’s downtown. The local, award winning artists work with a variety of mediums, such as “acrylic, graphite, oil, pastel, watercolor, photography and mixed media.” You never know what you’ll find here; it is an ideal place to shop for souvenirs and gifts. That’s why Chautauqua’s History Comes Alive Festival is sure to be a knockout. Join as Charles Dickens, El Vaquero, Maria Von Trapp, and more, tell their behind the scenes stories. Performances will be held inside during the day and outside during the evenings. Note: Please reserve your spots online for indoor shows, and bring your own lawn chair for outdoor shows. Twin Creeks Lavender Farm offers serenity in a stifling world. Escape the hustle for an afternoon and pick flowers instead. In celebration of their 5th anniversary, Twin Creeks is no longer charging for entry or parking; participants will pay only for picked lavender. Lavender has many health benefits and can be used to decrease stress, anxiety, and insomnia, among other things. It’s also subtly sweet and floral when used in teas and baking. Once you have finished picking, check out their barn store for more than a hundred homemade lavender items, like soap and essential oils. Cool off from the hot sun with a honey, lavender ice cream or fresh, lavender lemonade. This 100 year old farm takes visitors back to a simpler time, away from the stress of the city.
Celebrate National Get Outdoors Day this weekend at Chimney Rock State Park. Located about an hour from downtown Greenville, Chimney Rock overlooks a 75 mile wide view of lush forests and the Blue Ridge Mountains. In addition to hiking and sightseeing, this weekend will also include free activities and education stations for individuals of all ages. For example, be sure to check out “Rockin’ Raptors” and “Threats and Thorns” in order to learn more about our natural world.
