Whether you’re visiting for the first time or have spent years in the Greenville area, The Local 5 Newsletter is your one stop destination to find out what you don’t want to miss this weekend in the Upstate.

Every Thursday, we will highlight our ‘top 5 musts’ that will include everything from restaurants, activities, parks, concerts and festivals that are all right here in beautiful Greenville, SC.

One

Moonlight Movies are back in Greenville, SC! Every Thursday night from September 5th-October 31st, a classic movie will be shown at Falls Park on the big screen. Wear your jammies, pack snacks, and bring comfortable seating for a cozy night under the stars. This Thursday’s movie will be “National Treasure,” so get ready, all you Nicholas Cage fans. As a heads up, $1 wristbands must be purchased if you plan to bring alcohol. Snuggle in and enjoy the free show!

Two

Visit “where the wild things are” this Friday, September 6th, for a Sippin’ Safari fundraiser at the Greenville Zoo. From 6:30pm-9:30pm, visitors can explore the exhibits while sampling from an array of wines, beers, and hors d'oeuvres. Sponsors include Willy Taco, Swamp Rabbit Cafe, Barberitos, The Melting Pot, and more. Additionally, enjoy beer samples from 13 Stripes Beer. This event is ages 21+ and ID is required for admission. All proceeds will benefit the Greenville Zoo so that they can continue to provide premier animal care. Walk among the lions in the moonlight; it's sure to be a wild time.

Three

Experience a world of dragons, knights, and fairies at Greer’s annual Upstate Renaissance Faire on September 6th-7th. Every year it has gotten bigger and better, and this year is no exception. The whole family can enjoy live entertainment, knight tournaments, Kids Kingdom, and an artisan marketplace. Don your best medieval costume for their costume contest! Or not; truly, there is no better place for people watching. Vendors will be on site, so look out for kettle corn and turkey leg sellers. Both the event and parking are completely free; come on out this weekend for a magical time.

Four

Get ready for a scary good time at Madworld’s Haunted Attraction in Greenville, SC. Chalked full of clowns, witches, and zombies, there's a reason it was voted "Scariest Haunted House in South Carolina." Whether you’re a newbie or a returner, it will be a new experience in that Madworld has added “new scenes, more actors, new scares, and new family entertainment.” Not into the scary stuff? Feel free to tag along with friends in order to participate in fall themed activities like mini golf, ax throwing, and live entertainment. Enjoy Madworld every weekend from 9/6-11/2… if you dare.

Enjoy a walk in the park this Sunday afternoon during a new local event: Celebrating an Urban Gem in the Heart of Greenville. Join for an uplifting time of speeches, performances, and food trucks. After a series of speeches from governing officials, thespians will be performing from The South Carolina Governor's School for Arts and Humanities and The Warehouse Theatre. Don’t forget to pack a picnic lunch or check out the food trucks that will be located along Furman College Way. It’s always a good time to appreciate the arts and celebrate one’s city.
